Rousis, Helen

Helen Rousis, age 88 of Lorain, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019. She enjoyed marching and competing with the Polish League of American Veterans’ Drill Team. She was a good cook who loved reading, gardening and playing games with her family and her monthly ladies club.  The ladies club had 6 members who met monthly to play cards, and on other special occasions for over 50 years!

Helen is survived by her children, Gayle Smith (Mike) and William Rousis (Barb); 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband William and parents, Ludwig and Helen Lukesic.

Service was private and burial took place in Calvary Cemetery.

Fairbanks, Suzann M.

Suzann M. Fairbanks, 73 of Wellington, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 6, 2019.  She was the most caring person, doing anything for anyone.  She loved going to the casino, but most importantly, she was the best mom and granny in the world!

Suzann is survived by her loving daughters, Rebecca Caramagno (Brett), Sandra Benko (Karl), and Amy Johnston (Joshua); grandchildren, Misty Gross, Matthew Gross, Emily Benko, Courtney Johnston, Trevor Johnston, Eric Benko, and Kennedi Benko; and siblings, Shirley Lewis, Dixie Lepan, Lynda Weigl, and George “Skip” Curtis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Natalie Curtis; and siblings, Jerry Curtis, James “Jimmy” Curtis, Beverly Case, Thomas “Tom” Curtis, and Richard “Rich” Curtis.

Waldecker, Lois

Lois Waldecker, age 89 of Oberlin passed away on Friday, March 29, 2019. She was a long-time resident of Welcome Nursing Home where she enjoyed going on field trips. Lois also loved going to the Lorain County Fair, playing Bingo, and spending time with her friends and staff at Welcome Nursing Home.

Lois is survived by her sister, Janet Porrelli and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Christine Waldecker; brothers, Richard (wife, Juanita surviving) and William Waldecker, and sister, Mary Strouse.

The family is grateful to all the wonderful staff and friends at Welcome Nursing Home.

Perine, Laura E.

Laura E. Perine (nee Scott), 91 of Elyria, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at her home.  She was very proud that she had paid her own way for the two years she attended college and was on the first women’s college basketball team in West Virginia. Laura was very active in her church’s nursing home ministry where she sang and preached. She also was instrumental in raising not only her children, but many more in the family as well.

She is survived by her children, Gene G. Perine, Betty Turner, and James M. Perine; grandchildren, Peter and Samuel Goldauskas, Amber Perine, Laura Kilzer, Mary Perine, Lindsay Smith, Michael Wittreich, Christopher, Chad and Amanda Perine; many great grandchildren; and sister Betty Doss of Parkersburg, WV.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Gene L. Perine; parents, Garfield and Mary Ellen Scott; and siblings, Hazel Gordon, Marie Miller, Hollis Scott, Lillian Lawson, and Remus Scott.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. where the funeral service will be held on Friday, April 5 at 11am. Burial to follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.

Harper, Howard

Howard I. Harper, 65 of Lorain, passed away on Thursday March 21, 2019. He was retired from Lake Terminal Railroad and was active in AA.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sharon; daughters, Shelby (Dan Hosta) and Carla (Luther Clay); four grandchildren; brother Isaac; and sisters, June Johnson and Phyllis Burke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard F. and Bonnie, and sister Patricia Harper.

Honoring Howard’s request, there will be no services.

Jankowski, Jerry

Jerry Jankowski, resident of Elyria, OH passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the age of 73.

At Mr. Jankowski’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Bracy, Georgia

Georgia Ann (Gilchrist) Bracy 86, was born on April 8th, 1932 in Lowndes County Alabama. She met and soon married Nelson Bracy on September 11, 1941.  To this union 10 children were born.  Georgia received the

Infilling of the Holy Ghost at her cousin’s camp meeting in Montgomery, Alabama.  As a young wife and mother, she was employed at Maxwell-Field Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. She and Nelson later relocated to Lorain in the early 1960’s where she became a member of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member of the Mother Board, Kitchen Committee, and a true prayer warrior.

She was an exceptional cook, who rarely required a recipe, while feeding her family, church family, and many neighborhood children.  In a word, she was a “Truth Teller” who spoke it as it was but was still kind enough to fix you a plate.  A great listener and encourager to the down trodden.  And was quick to say: “Children are my most favorite people!”  Her most favorite group was the Canton Spirituals, and her most favorite saying was: “Baby, jus keep on Livin”

She is survived by Dorothy (Arthur) Lusane, Patricia (James) Ralston, Nelson Bracy, Pat Bracy, daughter-in-law, Michael (Jolynn) Bracy, and Napoleon Bracy all of Lorain, Ohio.  Teresa Evans, Birmingham, Alabama, Marion, (Glen) Johnson, Canfield, Ohio, Melvin, (Deborah) Bracy, Columbus, Ohio, Anita Bracy, Madison, Tennessee.  Brothers: Isaac and Brister Gilchrist of Detroit, Michigan, Mary Griffin, Hueytown, Alabama, Octavia Martin, Cleveland, Ohio, Ernestine Johnson, Montgomery, Alabama.  As well as 17 Grandchildren, 19 Great-grand children and 2 Great-great grandchildren.  She will also be greatly missed by her church family, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special and loyal friend, Gloria-Hammond.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson, and son, John Allen Bracy, as well as three brothers: George, Fred and John-Frank Gilchrist, and two sisters: Mary Davis, And Julia Thomas.

Family, friends and food donations will be received Monday-Wednesday at 749 Redhill Drive, Lorain and Thursday 5-8 pm at Knights of St. John 1620 Kansas Avenue, Lorain

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 22, at New Bethel Baptist Church, 3880 Dayton Avenue Lorain, Ohio where viewing will begin at 10am until time of service at Noon.

Reverend Tyrone Holley will officiate.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.

Armbruster, Lawrence

Lawrence A. Armbruster, 81 of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 after spending the day with his family by his side. He was a lifelong Lorain County resident and a career UAW advocate, having served as a Union official.

Lawrence is survived by his sons, Paul and Joseph A. (Peggy) Armbruster; grandchildren, Alicia Coughlin, (Steve), Andrea Hopkins (TJ), and Charity Armbruster; and a great grandson, Liam Coughlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Armbruster; and sister, Patricia Reichert.

A Celebration of Lawrence’s life will be held later in July.

Rivera, Ramon Sr.

Lorain, Ohio – Ramon Rivera, Sr.; Age 95; June 15, 1923; Ramon was predeceased by his loving wife, Monserratte. Proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren—Natalie, Suzette, Carmen, Walter, Yolanda, Sandra, Cynthia, Raquel, Rafael, Jr., Daniel, Deborah, and Sara—and 22 great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Zulma Rivera, and two sons and their spouses: Ramon and Marta Rivera, and Rafael and Iris Diaz.

As a young man, Ramon came to the United States from Puerto Rico and worked in Florida as a migrant worker.  Through the encouragement of friends, he moved to New York City but due to lack of work, he decided to move to Ohio where he accepted a job at the Lorain Steel Mill. He taught himself to read, write, and speak English through a correspondence course, and worked his way from floor custodian to vacation relief worker until he retired in 1978.

Ramon was a born again Christian who loved the Lord, and was a faithful member of Local Del Evangelio/ Leavitt Road Gospel Hall.  He and his wife cared for the poor, sick, and those in need.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 14th, 4-8pm at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. with a funeral service the following day, Friday, March 15th, 10:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery.

Snyder, Alma G.

Alma Gregory Snyder, age 79 of Avon, passed away Sunday February 24, 2019 at her home. She was a beautiful, funny, strong, witty, and hard-working lady who lived simply, but loved greatly.

Alma is survived by her husband Al Snyder; sons, Tom (Fran) Gregory, Joe (Carolyn) Gregory, and Mark (Elaine) Gregory; grandchildren, Andrea (Dan) Findley, Stephanie (Zach) Levy, Joe Gregory, Amber (Jacob) Baraona, Kyle (Danielle) Gregory, Brad Gregory, and Jamie Gregory; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Trudi Hodgson.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Gregory.

Van Horn, Lyle E.

Lyle Ellis Van Horn, age 92 of Sheffield Lake, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019. He was born in Zanesville OH on March 7, 1926 to William L. and Mary A. (nee Winner) Van Horn. Lyle retired from USSteel as a Turn Foreman after 36 years of service. He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He enjoyed woodworking, flying, amateur radio, tinkering, and church maintenance, and was a magician who worked for another magician who could make an elephant disappear. Lyle was also an avid member of Grace Baptist Church in Lorain.

When his beloved wife of 26 years, Emma R. (nee Gutosky), developed breast cancer, Lyle made her life as easy as possible. Emma preceded Lyle in death.

He is survived by his children, Mark (Darlene) of Elyria and Arthur (Sharon) of Findlay; grandchildren, Alex, Dylan, Keith and Joyce; 4 great grandchildren; and one sister, Sonja of West Virginia.

Lyle was also preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Wilva, Corbert, Darryl, Charlotte, and Vanna.

The family would like to thank the staff of Mill Manor Care Center, Vermilion for the care they provided to Lyle. Memorials in Lyle’s name may be forwarded to Grace Baptist Church or Meals on Wheels in Sheffield Lake.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2 from 9-11am at Grace Baptist Church, 719 Root Rd., Lorain with the funeral service beginning at 11am. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.

Workman, Russell

Russell L. Workman, Sr., age 69 of Lorain passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2019. He was a Vietnam Veteran who retired from US Steel and the MetroParks. Russell loved fishing, hunting, being in nature, and shooting pool with his boys. He enjoyed making birdhouses and playing cards. Russell, or “Paw” as he was known to most, spread love and cheer and was a positive influence to all he met. He would do anything for anyone.  Above all else, he was a great husband and a wonderful father.

Russell is survived by his wife of 50 years, Annie; son Russell, Jr. (Angel); grandchildren, Skyler Provence (Tonya), Robert Provence (Julia), Teresa Workman, and Shane McEachern (Hailee); great grandchildren, Ayden, Hunter, Matthew, and Lilly Provence; mother Myrtle Workman; sisters, Judy, Millie, and Caroline; and brothers, Okie, Farlin, and Richard.

He was preceded in death by his father John Workman; brother George Workman, and son, Craig Workman.

The family will receive friends at the Wyers- Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. on Wednesday and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm each day. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11am.

Honis, Gregory M.

Gregory M. Honis, 68, of Elyria went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 2, 2019.

He was born July 14, 1950 in Elyria and was a 1968 graduate of Elyria High School. He enlisted in the US Army shortly after High School and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Among the Medals he received was The Purple Heart. He also was in the National Guard.  He was hard working, devoted husband and father, and a lifelong Welder. He Retired from North America Cronite where he returned, working part-time. Greg was a Eucharist Minister, he attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Grafton. Greg enjoyed astronomy, was into Stock Cars, fishing, hunting, gardening, traveling to Amish Country with his wife and being a Trekkie. He was an avid runner and powerlifter.

Survivors include his son Bryan of Elyria; his parents Steve and Theresa Honis, sisters Cynthia Runyon, and Tamie Lopez (Jose) of Elyria; brothers Mark and Kevin (Valerie) also of Elyria. He was preceded in death by his wife Linda.

Family will receive friends for a Celebration of Greg’s life on Friday, February 8, 2019 from 5-7pm at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel 2900 North Ridge Road Elyria Ohio. Burial will be at Butternut Ridge Cemetery with military honors date and time is yet to be determined.

Bonnette, Edna M.

Edna M. Bonnette, 70, of Lorain passed away late Sunday evening, January 27, 2019 at Mercy Hospital of Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

She was born, July 12, 1948 in Shinnston, WV., to the late Howard and Pearl (Bunnell) Duncan.

Edna was formerly employed by the Lorain Police Academy and worked as a hostess at the former Country Kitchen in Elyria. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, painting and working on her house.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Charles E. Bonnette; her five children, Jimmy Canter, Howard (Jessica) Canter of NC, Brenda (Larry) Brewer of NC., Mary Wiley, and Wilma Wiley of MI.; many grand and great-grandchildren; her siblings, Arlie (Dolores) Duncan, Walter (Karen) Duncan, James Duncan, and Mary (Johnny) Britt; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Including her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, George, William “Bill” Duncan, Bessie Falish, and Wilma “Darlene” Waybright.

At the family’s request, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 1, 2019 at Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. Interment will take place at a later date in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

Maggard, Jeanette K.

Jeannette K. Maggard (nee Geiger), 79 of Sheffield Lake, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at her residence. She was a strong-willed woman who was full of life.  Jeannette was retired from politics in the city of Sheffield Lake. She was very civic-minded, engaged in community service and was a member of the Republican Woman’s Committee, VFW Post 8686, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Above all else, she was a loving mother who took great care of her family.

Jeannette is survived by her daughters, Kimberley Ann Maggard (fiancé, Joel Howard) and Jennifer Maggard (Frank Mack); son, Robert Charles Maggard (Stephanie); grandchildren, Bryan Maggard, Amber Walls, Michael Tabler, James Tabler, Jaqualine Maggard, Shane Rusling, and Brady Maggard; great grandchildren, Danielle and Lorelai Burton, Finn and Noah Walls, Nathan Maggard, and Mario Tabler Adams; Sister, Shirley Minor; and Chuck Tabler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Joseph and Alice Geiger; twin sister, Jeanne Dilla (Ralph, surviving); sister, Sandra Manzell; and brother, Joseph Geiger.

Bennett, Delnora

Delnora F. Bennett, 73 of Elyria passed away early Friday morning at Mercy of Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

He was born February 7, 1945 in Orton, WV. to the late Dorsey L. and Thelma M. (Conrad) Bennett.

Del proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was employed by Edwards Tree Services, where he earned the nickname “Jungle George” and retired after over 35years of employment. Del was an avid hunter. In his spare time he enjoyed sitting on his front porch and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Deborah Ann (Mate) Bennett; his children, Nicole (Michael) Pleska of Wakeman, Deanna Bennett of Elyria and Tammy (James Brown) Walcheck of Wellington; nine grandchildren, Dylan, Tiffany, Destiney, Delmar Jr., Kaitlyn, Dakota, Jacob, Wyatt and Joseph; great-grandson, Josue; his siblings, Winnie (Denzel) Cunningham, Suzanne (Reese) Cottrill, Betty (Bud) Montgomery, Ivy (Carrell) Burns and Aaron (Lenora) Bennett all of West Virginia; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Including his parents, he is preceded in death by his great-grandson, Carter Board and his siblings, Ezra, Cecil, Shirley Bennett, Mary Moore and Corrina Harris.

At the family’s request cremation will take place and private services will be held at a later date.

George, Donald E.

Donald E. George, 75 of Elyria, passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 at his home. He worked in the construction trades and loved fishing and boating.

Donald is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Amelia (nee Webb); children, Lee Ausmus (Diane), Troy George (Michael Hornyak), and Donny George (Gina); grandchildren, Natasha and Michael Ausmus; four great grandchildren; sisters, Janice Tomasek (Gerald) and Barbara Lumadue (Richard); and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Dorothy George.

Swart, Richard & Shirley

Richard and Shirley Swart passed away one day apart on January 11 and 10, 2019 respectively at their home in Lorain. Richard worked for the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Association as a transportation driver for 5 years, and as the Commissioner for Housing. He also was the Lorain Area Council Commissioner for 17 years and did a lot of volunteer work for the Boys and Girl Clubs. Shirley was an LPN for 34 years and also owned the East Avenue Laundromat for about 15 years and tended to residents at the NORD Center for about 10 years. She completely retired four years ago. Richard and Shirley were always together as they enjoyed taking road trips, fishing, and dancing. They loved their dog, “Snowzy”.

Survivors include Richard’s son Elmer Swart; Shirley’s children, Vickie Tomlin (Scott), Robert Milton (Pam), Kimberly Crites, and Nawassa “Melinda” Gonzalez; 23 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and Richard’s eight brothers and sisters.

They were preceded in death by Richard’s parents, Elmer and Ruth Swart; Shirley’s parents, Richard and Doris Baker; Shirley’s daughter, Angela Melton; and Shirley’s brothers, Richard and Steven Baker.

Moore, Corinna

Corinna Moore, 49 of Wakeman, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 in the comfort of her home after a long illness. Born May 30th, 1969, Corinna was diagnosed with Spina Bifida. Corinna was the March of Dimes Poster Child in 1972, and the Easter Seals Poster Child in 1977.  She was a graduate of Elyria West High School.

Survivors include her mother Susan Moore (nee Mate); stepfather Stephen Piroch, Jr.; sister Carla Bartlebaugh; twin brothers, James and Jeff Moore; nephews, Tyler and Brandon Bartlebaugh all of Wakeman; her favorite Aunt Brenda and Uncle Carl Dolan of Wellington; and many more aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Corinna was preceded in death by her father Roger Moore of Grafton; maternal grandparents Frank and Elizabeth Mate of Oberlin; and paternal grandparents, Mary and Wana Moore of Grafton.

Kovach, Helen

Helen Kovach age 89 of Lorain, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018. She was a fabulous cook who enjoyed reading books, crocheting, and working on puzzles. Helen especially loved playing with her grandchildren whom she helped raise.

She is survived by her son, John Kovach; 7 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband Steve; son, Col. Allen Kovach; daughter, Stephanie Brooks; sisters, Elizabeth, Eva, Katie, Rose, and Ann; and brothers, Louis and Steve.

Hodnick, Louis J.

Louis J. Hodnick, age 75 of Sheffield Lake, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 10, 2018. He retired from Ford Motor Co. after over 25 years of service. He liked cars and loved all his pets.

Louis is survived by his loving daughters, Cynthia Hodnick and Rhonda Wallace (Terry); brother, John Hodnick; and nieces, Carolynn Walker, Leslie Anne Hladis, and Alise Hodnick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Caroline and Louis Hodnick; his beloved wife, Bettie Jane; sister, Geraldine Walker; and niece Paulette Walker.

Wargo, Angela L.

Angela L. Wargo, age 29 of Lorain, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 2, 2018. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and outdoor sports, shopping, and especially being with family and friends.

Angela is survived by her children, Dorrian, Zoey, and Chase; her paternal grandparents who raised her, David and Bernice Wargo; parents, Mark Wargo and Pamela Stephenson; siblings, Andrea Stout (rick), Amy Wargo (Jen), and Bruce Stephenson, Jr.; maternal grandfather, Doug Blackhall; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Virginia Blackhall.

Gates, Wilbert G.

Wilbert G. Gates, age 92 of Elyria, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018. He was a World War II Army veteran who had received 2 bronze stars. Wilbert enjoyed working around his house and was all about his family – they meant everything to him.

Wilbert is survived by his children, Linda Scheuer (Robert), Michael, Mary, and Mark Gates; 10 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife Irene; daughter, Marla Gates; and 2 grandchildren, Grace and Colin Loudermilk.

A private family service will be held.

Adams, Larry K.

Larry K. Adams, age 73 of Sheffield Lake, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at his home. He retired from Ford Motor Co. where he worked for 43 years. Larry was a good man who enjoyed painting, music, and playing guitar. He was an avid sports fan, especially rooting for his favorite West Virginia Mountaineers. Family was the most important thing to Larry, whom he loved unconditionally.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Fran (nee Walter); daughters, Teresa Adams (Patty Rice) and Stephanie Cunningham (Jon); grandchildren, Kiran and Jordan Cunningham; brother Marvin Adams (Amanda); and sister Sharilyn Miller (Bob). He was a loving brother-in-law and uncle. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Glendell and Mary Adams.

Walter A. Ridenour, age 78 formerly of Lorain, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018. He was a retired machine operator from Elyria Plating Corporation who enjoyed bingo and spending time on the computer.

Walter is survived by his children, Richard (Brenda), Robert (Janice), Roger (Debbie), Ronald (Crystal), Ricky (Denise), Roxanne Brewster (Thomas), and Raymond; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and brother Turner Ridenour, Jr. (Wanda).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Etta and Turner Ridenour, Sr.; and siblings, Maida Ridenour, Virginia Griest, Vivian Rider, and Melvin Ridenour.

The family will receive friends at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. on Wednesday from 4-7pm. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday at 10am followed by the burial at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.

Rodriguez, Leoncio

Leoncio Rodriguez, age 92 of Lorain, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018. He had worked for Fruehauf Corp. for 22 years, and then for US Steel for 23 years until his retirement.

Leoncio was very active in growing Sacred Heart Chapel and helped form the credit union at Sacred Heart. He was a loving husband and father who was also known for being dedicated, giving, caring, hard-working, and very spiritual.

Leoncio is survived by his loving wife, Felicita; children, Leo Rodriguez (Chrissy), Luis Rodriguez (Melissa), and Linda Maldonado (Rodriguez); grandchildren, Yazmin Maldonado, Nicole Skinner, Tara Rodriguez, Brandon Rodriguez, Miranda Folley, Amelia Rodriguez, Alyssa Maldonado, Tori Rodriguez, Tiffany Rodriguez, Luis Rodriguez, Danny Rodriguez, and Michael Ebosh; great grandchildren, Devyn, Sophia, Brantley, Kaiden, Karsen, and Ryker; and siblings, Narciso, Bruno, and Antonia Rodriguez.

The family will receive friends at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. on Tuesday from 5-7pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday at 11am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain followed by the burial at Calvary Cemetery.

Collins, John W.

John W. Collins, age 86, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018. He was a retired leadman from Harshaw. John loved working on old trucks, and going to flea markets and car shows. He was a US Army veteran from the Korean War era who loved spending time with his granddaughter of whom he was so proud.

John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rhoda; daughter Diana and son-in-law Richard Bansek; granddaughter Brittany Sidoti (Chris); great granddaughter Willow Sidoti; and brother Joseph Collins. He was preceded in death by his son Wesley Collins; brothers, James, Raymond, and Richard Collins; and sisters, Ruth Miles, and Mary Garrett.

The family will receive friends at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. on Thursday from 5-7pm with a service at 6pm. John will be buried at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Friday.

Irish, Crystal Lynn

Crystal Lynn Irish, 44 of Wakeman, passed away unexpectedly on October 30 due to a car accident while working in Michigan. She was born Aug. 10, 1974 in Lorain, OH and graduated from Southview High School in 1992. Crystal continued her education at LCCC and CSU while working as a correction/logistics officer for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. She was currently employed by Retail Data. Crystal enjoyed swimming, music, and being a mother, spending time with her family. She always pushed herself to the limit.

Crystal is survived by her fiancé, Marshall “Steve” Bland; sons, George, Trent, and Ian Irish; Steve’s daughter, Riley Bland; her mother, Marsha Casselman; father and stepmother, James and Donna Riley; stepfather, Harold Casselman (Margie); brothers, Richard Gills, Jr. and Chad Ellis; stepbrothers, Jeffrey Casselman (Jamie) and Jayson Casselman (Crystal); and step sister, Wendy Dillon (Donald).

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Roberta Leatherwood, and Adrian Leatherwood (Helen); paternal grandparents, Polly and Doe Riley; and an infant brother and sister.

The family will receive friends at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. on Monday from 2-4pm with a short service at 4pm followed by a celebration of her life at Gus’ Steak and Ale, 5348 Lake Rd., Sheffield Lake at 5pm.

Schaffer, Lorelei M.

Lorelei M. Schaffer, age 64 of Lorain, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018. She was an active member of the Church at Lorain Gospel Mission. Lorelei loved her dog, Cookie, gardening, finishing puzzles, and walking everywhere (she never drove).

Lorelei is survived by her loving daughter, Lori Barricklow; grandchildren, Kevin Hayes II, Brandon, Jade, and Kaidan Barricklow, Giana and Lailani Blondet; life-time partner, Clifford Duncan; brothers, Charles (Diane), Lonnie (Michelle), Leland (Debbie), and Richard Schaffer (Cindy); sisters, Linda Orr (Butch), Brenda Schaffer, Kathy Beddingfield (Robert), and Shirley Schaffer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Clara Schaffer; brothers, James and Leonard Schaffer; a sister, Mary Royster; and former partner, Roy Rexroad.

The family will receive friends at Bethel Chapel, 4065 Broadway Ave., Lorain on Saturday, November 3 for a memorial service at 1pm with a luncheon to follow.

Gargas, Eugene F. Sr.

Eugene F. Gargas, Sr., age 84 of Grafton, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018. He was a proud Air Force Veteran of the Korean War having served as an air traffic controller. He was an engineer who owned 4 patents. Gene liked gardening, making wine, cooking, being with family, sports, music, basically everything. He was an all-around guy who would try anything.

Gene is survived by his children, Kim Cooper (Brad), Tamara Gargas, Gene Gargas, Jr. (Audrey), and Kelly Walter (Dave); grandchildren, Emily, Brad II, and Daniel Cooper, Michael and Sean Marron, Geno Gargas, Stephanie Kuntz, Matthew Gargas, Samantha Wyant, and Carl Walter; great grandchildren, Mikaela Cooper, Delainey Krasin, Chase Cooper, Jayden Sullivan, Will, Rob, James, and Tim Marron, Kinsley and Miley Kuntz, Ava and Clayton Walter, and Hannah Wyant; and his brother, Donald Gargas (Cher).

Weigl, Albert L.

Albert L. Weigl, age 93 of Elyria, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Mercy New Life Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born to Eastern European parents, Joseph and Mary Weigl. He served in the US Navy during World War II. Albert worked for 37 years at Elyria Foundry, retiring as Vice President of Sales. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed woodworking and especially spending time with his family.

Albert is survived by his children, Cheryl Flowers (Jack) and Bruce Weigl (Jean); grandchildren, Ryan Flowers, Breke Flowers, Andrew Weigl, and Hanh Weigl; and great grandchildren, Kasey Flowers, Sonny Weigl, and Mila Wilbond. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Zora, and four brothers and two sisters. The family would like to thank New Life Hospice for their outstanding care.

Collins, Rebecca

Rebecca P. Collins age 54 of Lorain, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at her home. Her life revolved around her daughter Mariah and vice versa. Her house was always open for family who needed help. Rebecca would give you the shirt off of her back if you needed it.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Mariah Zurfluh (Jonathen W. Long, fiancé); her father, William Juhos, Sr.; and her siblings, Paul Yuhos, Sue Long, Diane Mick, and Bill Yuhos, Jr. She was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Yuhos.

Hensley, Frances L. “Lena”

Frances L. “Lena” Hensley, 94 of Lorain, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. She was the beloved mother of Ernie Hensley (Mary Lee, deceased), Larry Hensley (Anne), Phyllis Nestor (deceased) (Tony, surviving). Dear grandmother of Richard Nestor, Melissa Miller, Tamara Nestor, Kevin Hensley, Jimmy Berry, April Wendt, Brian Hensley, Scott Hensley, and Lori Hinde. Loving great grandmother and great great grandmother of many; and dear aunt to several nieces and nephews in West Virginia. She is also survived by her adopted daughter, caregiver, and friend, Barb Permelia.

She was preceded in death by husbands, George E. Hensley and Delmor K. Hensley; sister, Jeanie Pullin; daughter, Phyllis Nestor; and daughter-in-law, Mary Lee Hensley.

In her younger days, she loved painting, drawing, fishing with her husband Delmor; and more recently shopping, being with family, and the company of her cat, Abby. A special thank you to Trish, Star, Tammy, Tela, and her many caregivers over the years.

Bracy, Cynthia

Cynthia Bracy, age 61 of Lorain, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018. She was a loving and forgiving person who enjoyed cooking, and especially, taking care of her grandchildren.

Cynthia is survived by her husband of 30 years, John Bracy; children, Nicole and Daniel Bracy; four grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Powers; and a nephew, Scott Powers.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. on Saturday at 12noon.

Burke, Elizabeth “Betty”

Elizabeth “Betty” Burke (nee Murrell), age 96 of Elyria, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018. She was born and raised in the city of Lorain and lived in Elyria since 1973. Betty graduated from Clearview High School in 1940 and the Oberlin School of Commerce. She worked as a stenographer in the Engineering Department at US Steel in Lorain before joining the US Navy in World War II where she also did office work.

Betty liked travelling, beach combing, crafts, dancing and was a true lover of nature. She was very caring and liked helping those in need.

Betty is survived by her brother, David Murrell of Lorain; stepson, Robert Burke (Bonnie) of South Carolina and stepdaughter, Carol Pfeil (George, deceased) of Florida; grandchildren, Brenda Barber (Mike), Ellen Weimer (Phil) and Ben Burke (Jessica); 4 great grandchildren; and good friends, Wanda Hubert, Kathie Daley, and Sarah Toth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence W. Burke; parents, Albert and Florence Murrell; brother, Richard Murrell and sister, Lillian Murrell.

A private service will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.

King, Mary Jo

Mary Jo King (Delzeith) 73 of Lorain, died peacefully while surrounded by family on Friday, October 19, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. She was born on March 28, 1945 to parents Joseph and Sylvia Delzeith (Van Niel).

Mary Jo is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Tracy and Brian Younce (King); grandchildren, Cameron King, Kyle King, Rachael Younce, and Emily Younce; and great-grandchildren, Oliver Scott King and Kyler Nicholas King.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Sylvia Delzeith; son Scott King, and sister, Kathleen Boris (Delzeith).

Mary Jo was a lifetime resident of Lorain where she graduated from Clearview High School in 1963. She retired from Lowe’s after 15 years of sharing her vast knowledge with customers. She was active in her church and loved painting, gardening, working in her yard and reading, however her greatest joy was always spending time with family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in hopes that one less person will be lost to this terrible disease.

Taylor, Karla K.

Karla Kay Taylor ,59,passed away May 25th at her home. She was born Sept.23rd 1958 in Winchester Virginia, the daughter of Henry and Shirley McKee , Loving mom of Nate and Chante’ Taylor.

Karla was a sweet woman,who had the biggest heart.She lived for her kids,And would do anything for them, loving them unconditionall y.  Family was the most important thing for her. She touched so many lives over the years with her kindness, warm smile,  And big hugs.
