Albert A. Schultz, Jr, 72, passed away peacefully at Mercy Health New Life Hospice on Monday April 24, 2023. Al was born August 26, 1950 in Buffalo NY to Albert A. Sr. & Vera (Morin) Schultz. In 1962, he moved with his parents to St. Albans, WV. He attended Hayes Jr. High, and graduated from St. Albans High School in 1968. He also received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from West Virginia Institute of Technology in 1973. On May 26, 1973, Al married the love of life, Anna (White) Schultz.
Al began working for Jim Minnich Racing in Nitro, WV while in High school and throughout college before moving to Lorain, Ohio in 1973 to begin teaching Industrial Arts at Lorain High School. In 1976, Al left teaching to work for The Illuminating Company in Avon Lake, later transferring to the Cleveland Power Plant Support Center. He also started his own business, Prototype Machine Company, building high performance race engines, and soon became very involved with local racing. In 1991, Al decided to pursue his business full-time, as well getting his son Charlie into Kart racing, soon followed by TQ Midgets, Sprint cars & Super Modifieds.
Eventually, Al went to work for Legend Delivery where he would deliver for different companies such as Progressive Insurance, Sherwin Williams & Leff Electric. He had routes that allowed him to travel much of Northeast Ohio, which he truly enjoyed, and he would often remark "That was on my route" when someone mentioned a certain Northeast Ohio location. Even after retirement, Al continued to make trips throughout Northeast Ohio.
Al enjoyed being a teacher, to anyone, about anything he knew! He also enjoyed Drag Racing and spending time at the shop "supervising" Charlie's race car building. But more importantly, he enjoyed spending time with family and storytelling to all that listened.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Albert A & Vera (Morin) Schultz.
Al is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anna (White) Schultz and his only son, Charles (fiancé Debbie Walker).
Friends & Family are invited to join Al on his final stop on his route for visitation Tuesday May 2, 2023 from 4:00 -7:00 pm at Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Road Elyria, Ohio. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm.
