Barbara Farley

December 21, 1940 — August 25, 2024

Sheffield

Barbara Farley (nee Williams) 83 of Sheffield Village, Ohio went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2024. Barbara grew up in Oak Hill, WV with four brothers and two sisters. She was the last of her siblings to leave this earthly home. Barbara married Neal Farley on April 10, 1960, in Wild, Wonderful West Virginia. Soon thereafter the newlyweds headed to Cleveland, Ohio as Neal was in search of gainful employment in the big city. Yearning for a place that could offer a peaceful environment with a little acreage they moved to the suburb of Sheffield Village and purchased a home there in 1964. Barbara loved their wonderful little house as she so fondly called it. She loved taking care of her yard and flower beds and continued to live there after Neal passed in 2005 until her homecoming. She took great pride in her home and epitomized the phrase, “There’s no place like home!”. During her illness she was constantly trying to figure out how she could get back to her wonderful home she so dearly missed. During her short stay at Avon Place SNF the Police were there handling a call and Barb tried to convince them to give her a ride home!

Barbara didn’t work outside the home, but she fully embraced her role as Wife and Mother with all her heart. Barb enjoyed cooking, canning, baking, planting flowers, spending time with friends, volunteering and serving at her church. In her younger days, she also enjoyed bowling. Barbara’s family and friends were eager recipients of her fruitcakes, fudge and other goodies she routinely made with love.

Barbara loved the Lord and devoted much of her time in various capacities over the years serving her church where she was a member for nearly 50 years. She participated in member outreach, working in the kitchen for over 45 years, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and singing in the choir. Her church was originally named First Baptist Church of Sheffield Lake, but has recently been renamed as Steel City Church.

Barb is survived by her children, Lisa Scarberry of Riverview, FL and Jeff Farley (daughter-in-law Bennesa) of Van Alstyne, TX; grandchildren, Jared Farley, Lindsey Scarberry, Emily Scarberry, Jayden Farley and Anneliese Farley; and great grandchildren, Gannon Keeley, Keaton Scarberry, and Lucy Farley. Barb deeply loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, even though many miles separated them she kept in touch through cards, letters and phone calls. Barb journeyed along the highways and airways to visit until recently, as it became difficult to make long trips.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Barb’s life at Steel City Church, 633 Harris Road, Sheffield Lake on Saturday, October 5 at 10:30 am.
