Burgess, Venus E.

Venus E. Burgess, of Elyria, passed away on April 25, 2020 following a long illness. Venus is survived by his children, Marvin (Anita) from Elyria, Timothy (Barbara) from Burton, and Annette Williams from Bainbridge, GA; his siblings, Cordell, Ellis, Mildred Felton, Eleanor McSherry, Jerry, Bob, and Linda Rowe. He was loved by 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his loving wife Wanda (nee Sawyers); his parents, Nolan and Sarah Bell of Crossville, TN; his sons Douglas and Mark, and his brothers, Stanley, Leon, and Arnold.

Venus was born in Crossville, TN on June 23, 1934. He served in the Tennessee National Guard in 1952 and married Wanda, his loving wife, on June 23, 1956. Venus worked at Ridge Tool Co. in Elyria for over 40 years as a job setter. He enjoyed camping, playing softball and horseshoes with the family, and telling jokes around the campfire. Venus was an avid bowler, being inducted into the EBA Hall of Fame, and a golfer, who accomplished a hole-in-one at the Cumberland State Park golf course. He also took pride in his gardening skills. Upon retirement, Venus returned to Crossville, TN, where re resided until his illness brought him back to Ohio.

Graveside services will be held at a later date in Crossville, TN

  1. So sorry to hear of his passing. Venus my Dad Clem Bridges , Arnold ,and so many others worked together & bowled together . they were such close friends. I remember all the good times we had going bowling & watching them bowling . Sad to see such a great era in time gone. May your memories give you comfort and peace as they have to me. I smile when I think of those time. My Dad has been gone for 2 yrs now. I think of him every day & smile. Miss him greatly that will never change but oh those memories …. Praying for your family.
