Elyria

Diane Marie Smith (née Piper), born on July 11, 1969, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024.

Diane is survived by her devoted husband of 34 years, Paul; her beloved children, Heather (Casey Hearn) and Andrew;  her cherished grandchildren, Gabriel, Gideon, Lucas, AnnaMari, and Evey; her sister Patricia Milks, and her half sister, Angel Simko. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and cousins who will deeply miss her presence.

A proud graduate of Open Door Christian School’s Class of 1987, Diane was actively involved in Lorain County 4-H throughout her youth and adulthood. Her passion for education shaped her life as she pursued a fulfilling teaching career. Diane taught online through Ohio Connections Academy, in person at Albert Einstein Academy, and began her journey as an educator at Avon Lake City Schools.

Diane found immense joy in crafting and often shared her talents as a seamstress for church and community events. Her love for her family was boundless, and being a grandmother brought her unparalleled happiness. She took great pride in supporting her grandchildren’s pursuits and was a constant source of encouragement in their lives.

An avid NFL fan, Diane had a special place in her heart for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her competitive spirit shone brightly as the winningest owner in her family’s fantasy football league—a title she held with pride.

Diane’s warmth, creativity, and dedication to those she loved will be remembered by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to the many lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, the family will be creating a memorial garden filled with live houseplants.

A Celebration of Diane’s life will be scheduled in the future.

Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
