Donald A Lysaght

Donald Allen Lysaght, Sr “Poppy”, 78, a longtime resident of Elyria, Ohio, peacefully passed away with his beautiful bride by his side on March 17th, 2025 at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, following an extended illness. He was born on January 31st, 1947, to parents Frank and Mabel Lysaght in Elyria, Ohio.

Don was the devoted husband of Barbara Lysaght (nee Seip), they spent 43 years together and were the perfect example of true love. He was a wonderful father to his three children, Donal McLysaght (Amy), Adam Lysaght (Sharon), and Kimberly Lysaght Orille (Scott). He treasured his five grandchildren, Kati (Cody), Teagan, Katrina, Owen and Avery, and enjoyed their many antics growing up, as well as his three great grandchildren, Noah, Brantley and Holly. Don was a loving brother to his five siblings, Gerald Squire (Roz), David Lysaght (Cathy) , Cheryl Lysaght DiConcini, Dennis Lysaght, and Sandra Perry (Mark) and brother-in-law Julian Richard Seip, Jr.

Don was a gentle soul with a huge heart and a deep love for his family, pets, and music. He and Barbara had many beloved pets over the years, who they spoiled and loved every day. He shared his love of music with his kids and grandkids until the end, even singing a little of the Beatles and Kenny Rogers with his family this past Sunday. He truly had “moves like Jagger” and whether he was dancing at a family party or his daughters wedding, it was always a highlight and created cherished memories.

Don spent most of his career as a carpenter building for Bob Schmitt Homes. His attention to detail and high standards earned him a reputation as the go-to woodworker for private projects. He later transitioned to work as a home inspector for Lorain County Metropolitan Housing Authority where he loved his coworkers and enjoyed interacting with residents of the community.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, siblings Dennis Lysaght and Sandra Perry, brother-in-law Julian Richard Seip Jr., and three children, Donald, Adam and Kimberly, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews – all of whom he loved dearly

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mabel Lysaght, and his siblings, David Lysaght, Cheryl Lysaght DiConcini, and Gerald Squire.

All are welcome to join the family and pay their respects at Don’s Celebration of Life on March 29, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at The French Creek Nature Center, 4530 Colorado Ave, Sheffield Village, Ohio 44054.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of The Western Reserve.
