Emily M. Benson, 17, passed away unexpectedly on January 4th, 2025 at home. Even though Emily was taken from us before her time, she lived her life to the fullest every single day.
Emily loved to knit, often donating hats and scarves she made for anyone who needed them. In an effort to help others, she started teaching herself sign language. She had a passion for cooking and was the best sous chef to anyone in the kitchen. Emily was a staunch advocate and stood up for anyone who needed it with a fierce conviction. Her biggest love was Nacho, her big orange cat.
Emily was passionate about working with babies and small children and was involved in volunteer work with preschool and kindergarten children since she was in middle school. After graduating from Spectrum High School in the spring she planned to attend Lorain County Community College to study Early Childhood Education. We know Emily would’ve made a wonderful and talented teacher had she had the opportunity.
Emily was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Richard L. and Marcella Benson (née Hall); her maternal grandfather, Dennis Jordan; and her paternal uncle, Richard D. Benson. She is survived by her parents, Jeremy and Wendy Benson (née Hoover); siblings, Kenneth and Tara Smith, Marie Smith (Brandon), Claire Nicole Newman (Michael), and Xavier Benson (Veronica); maternal grandparents, Paul and Beverly Hoover (née Kirk); and nieces, Elizabeth and Arabella.
A private memorial will be held for close family and friends.
Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
