Gordon L. Sawyers Sr.

Gordon Lloyd Sawyers Sr., 76, of Elyria went home to the Lord on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Born October 24, 1945 to Orville and Molly Frances Pugh Sawyers of Backus Mountain, West Virginia, Gordon moved to Ohio in 1964 to join family and worked at Ridgid Tool Company as a job setter until his retirement in 2002.

Gordon is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Rita, his children Gordon Jr. (Kristeen), Michael (Paula), and Susan (Doug), his grandchildren, Benjamin, Ethan, Rose, and Noah, and sister Donna Kay Orndorff (Thorton) of Rainelle, West Virginia. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Clara, Margaret, Martha, Berchie, and Wanda and brothers, James and Dallas.

Gordon enjoyed being outside in the sunshine gardening, bowling, listening to Cleveland Indians baseball games, country or gospel music on a portable old school radio and playing corn hole with his grandkids.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Midway Baptist Church, 41812 Griswold Road, Elyria, OH 44035. A Christian funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Rick Keesee at Midway Baptist Church on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 10:00 am with interment at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Gordon’s honor to Midway Baptist Church. Arrangements made by Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, Elyria, Ohio.
