John Henry Plas, age 68, passed from this world on June 1, 2022, in Elyria, Ohio after a courageous struggle against a long illness.
Born March 8, 1954 in Elyria, Ohio, the third child of Patricia (nee Kaminsky) and James Arthur Plas, he lived most of his life in Lorain County but also resided in Tennessee and Nevada. Known to his friends by the nickname given him by his father, The Razorback enjoyed spending time with his daughter Jennifer and his three grandchildren; Hayes, Griffin and Ashlyn. John also enjoyed motorcycling, music, the outdoors, travel, watching NASCAR and boxing, following the Cleveland Indians and the factory of sadness known as The Cleveland Browns. John had a great sense of humor and was at his best when surrounded by family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by many.
John is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Darrick) Szemety and grandchildren Hayes, Griffin and Ashlyn Szemety, all of Las Vegas; former wife and lifelong friend Christine Plas of Elyria; siblings Michael Plas and Mary Addi of Elyria, Steven Plas of San Rafael, California, Arthur Plas of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Laura Plas of Denver, Colorado and Genevieve Plas of Wakefield, Rhode Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia (nee Kaminsky) and James Arthur Plas, and his brother, Zoyd Plas.
Honoring John’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. A celebration of life will be arranged for a future date.
