Mercedes "Mama" Vazquez

Mercedes "Mama" Vazquez, age 90, born October 1st, 1931 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico and passed away January 27th, 2022 in Louisville, Kentucky. Mercedes was a longtime Ohio resident, having moved to Ohio in the early 50's. She lived in Youngstown for 27 years, and was a resident of Lorain for 35 years.

Mercedes was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a loving mother, wife and grandmother, and she enjoyed cooking and showing good hospitality to her loved ones, and was a wonderful home-maker. She loved laughing and joking, always had a bright smile, and was a ray of sunshine. She made everyone feel loved and cared for in her home. Mercedes is survived by her beloved sister, Blasina Fred of Bronx, New York' her beloved and loving daughter, Sonia V. Calderon; grandson, Kevin "Juni" Hollaway; niece, Juana "Juanita" Fred of, Stamford Connecticut; great-grandkids, Carlos "Papito" Calderon, Moises "Cheo” Calderon, Arisdelis Calderon, who resides in Puerto Rico, Reina Remi Jo Hollaway and Christian Carlos Holloway, both of Louisville, Kentucky. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Augustina Ceballos and Horocio Fred; her beloved husband, Carlos Vazquez Calderon; her son, Carlos Calderon, of Puerto Rico; Roberto Vazquez of Lorain, Ohio and Juan Vazquez of Struthers in Youngstown, Ohio.

Visitation will be Friday at 11AM-1PM at Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N Ridge Rd, Elyria, Ohio, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 555 N Ridge Rd W, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
