Michael Mendak, 93, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Main Street Care Center in Avon, Ohio. He was born October 22, 1929 in Lorain, Ohio, and was one of 9 children to parents, Harry and Mary Mendak.
A career decision as an Electrician at U.S. Steel served him and his family well and was enjoyed. He enjoyed traveling, sports, hunting, fishing, trapping, and gardening, and was an all-star pitcher at Lorain High School.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Sophie (nee Komadina); sons, Michael Mendak, Jr. (Angela Rosario-Mendak) and David Mendak; sister, Mary Zgola (Mendak); grandchildren, Damian M. Mendak, Giana M. Mendak, and Danielle Stafford (nee Hunt); and many nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Mendak (nee Nakoneczna); sisters, Helen Cisar (nee Mendak) and Stella Simo (nee Mendak); brothers; John Mendak, Steve Mendak, and Charles Mendak.
Michael served in the Army during the Korean War and received the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal W/1 Bronze Service Star.
The family is grieving privately, and appreciate all family and friends' prayers during this time. They would also like to thank the staff at Main Street Care Center in Avon for all the care and compassion that was given to Michael.
