Leonard Woods, 71 of Oberlin, transitioned from this life on Friday, April 26, 2019. He was born in Pikeville, KY on December 9, 1947. Leonard attended Oberlin Schools and answered the call to serve in the Army during the Vietnam conflict in the 25th Infantry Division as a Specialist Fourth Class E4. Returning home to Oberlin, he settled in various jobs as a custodian to the Oberlin School District, assembly-line worker for General Motors, and truck driving. He enjoyed cooking for friends and family as well as fishing at every chance he could. His favorite pastime was watching westerns, watching the History Channel on television, and telling stories.

Leonard is survived by two daughters, Talisha of Romulus, MI and Alonda of Elyria; grandchildren, Ta’Tianna, Ty’Rreil, TyReice, Marquise, Jabari, Caleb, and Nevaeh; his loving mother, Leona Woods of Oberlin; sisters, Anna Moore, Paulette Strange (Darrick), Tondia Vilyus (Donald) all of Oberlin, Maureen Woods of Edgewater, MD, and Velma Inman of Elyria; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Leonard was preceded in death by his father, George Woods, Jr.; brothers, George Franklin Woods and Thomas Lee Woods; and his faithful furry companion, Chief.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 12 noon at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 N. Ridge Rd., Sheffield Twp. where the family will receive friends on Saturday from 11am until noon.

  1. I am truly saddened to hear of Leonard’s passing. He was such a kind man, and always had a story to tell me when he saw me. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during your difficult time.
